Make Each Day Count

I get it! I’ve been teaching for 15 years, the las t few weeks of school are a challenging time for ALL educators.  Students are shutting down for the summer, parents are anxiously waiting for the misery to begin. Teachers are looking forward to spending more time with their loved ones. Be mindful of these moments, as they are your life!  I read this morning that depressed people are individuals whom live their lives in the dreadful past. Anxious people are individuals who live their lives in the uncertainty of the future.  Peaceful individuals are those who live their lives in the present. Not can’t reflect upon our past or contemplating our future! However, the more time you spend enjoying every moment, the happier you will be.  Happy teacher equals happy students!

It is not what you are going to do, but what are doing today that counts.  As the year ends it is easy for teachers to shut down or begin to plan for the next school year. Lets all be mindful that your daily habits showcase your true intentions.  Here are a list of great leadership habits leaders are doing right now!

Great Habits That Make Every Day Count

Reading-Books are the lifeblood for learners. They offer the best advise, give us the best examples and teach us the best practices. Become an avid reader and invest your time by reading something that is inspirational, motivational or educational.

Listening-Leaders realize that time is a precious commodity. Great leaders give themselves an advantage by learning something new by just listening and digesting information. Most people do not listen with the intent to understand, most leaders listen with the intent to reply.  As Dr. Covey says “Seek first to Understand, then to be Understood.

Mentorship-One of the best habits you can practice daily to to look to a mentor. Choose your mentor wisely as it should not be someone who lectures but rather someone who inspires you to give your best. Find a mentor, gather what they’ve done and look for ways to improve.

Feedback-Great leaders embrace feedback both when its positive and negative. Find someone you trust ask for feedback and accept what they tell you.  Even if its a hard pill to swallow, accept it, evaluate the feedback carefully and most importantly learn from it.
